Condoms help protect you and your partner from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). There are many different types of condoms to suit different people. We will be happy to advise you on condoms and supply them for free.
We can also give you a c:card.
This lets you pick up free condoms from many venues across Edinburgh. If you are under 16 you will be given a c:card+. This means that we will see you privately in a consulting room and we can check out with you that you are safe and that you know how to use condoms properly. For more details about c:cards and the types of condoms available in Lothian please visit www.ccard.org.uk.
Diaphragms and caps
You put a diaphragm or cap into your vagina before intercourse. It is a barrier to sperm, but it is not the most reliable method of contraception. However, it does suit some women at some stages of life.
You can increase the reliability by using condoms at the same time. You need to speak to a doctor or nurse about this method and learn how to fit it yourself. You need to come back for a second appointment to check you are fitting it correctly.
